Closet Curtains For a Stylish Door

!: Closet Curtains For a Stylish Door

Are you thinking of remodeling your bedroom? Why not start with replacing your closet door with closet curtains. If you really want to have a stunning change in the look of your bedroom, you would never go wrong by replacing your closet door with a curtain made of either beads or bamboo.

Curtains will always be a simple, inexpensive and elegant alternative for closet doors. The use of curtains benefits closets in children's rooms because it eliminates the possibility of a child being locked inside the closet door while playing or pinching his fingers on the door of the closet.

There are many types available on the market today. You can choose any color that you want or that match the paint in your wall to create a seamless appearance of transitioning from a wall to a closet opening and then back to the wall.

The versatility is such that you can also use them to bring much needed color to a room or achieve a central point. Another creative idea that you could adopt is the use of flat sheets as replacement for closet curtains.

Flat sheets are inexpensive and the standard length is perfect for covering the closet from floor to ceiling. Here are some products from online retailers for your consideration.

Creative Ideas to Transform a House Into Your Home

!: Creative Ideas to Transform a House Into Your Home

These days everybody seems to be concerned about recycling. Going green is definitely a good idea. I have a friend who is absolutely obsessed with this recycle/reuse trend. Since she lives in another city we don't get together often but, recently, she visited my home. She was absolutely enthralled by my decor. I was complimented over and over again about my wonderful recycling ideas.

Looking around the house----and I mean REALLY looking---I noticed things I had just taken for granted. I guess I do recycle to create themes for my rooms! So, let's take a tour of my home...

In the kitchen there's an old necklace jewelry box I redesigned into a key holder, complete with a hinged door and "grapes". It has an antique-look to the grapes (they're recycled cluster beads I got from the dollar store one Christmas) and I sponge painted and sanded the holder to match.

I also moved a bedroom armoire in there to give me added storage. Hand crocheted potholders and knitted dishcloths are scattered throughout. Thrift stores were the source of small decorative shelves on the counters and the wicker covered wine bottles.

An child's dresser mirror was rescued from a going out of business store for .00. After making cherub figures from an old candy mold and plaster, I glued them around the edges of the mirror, painted them all black, spot sanded for an aged look and highlighted with gold. a mirror you could buy from a specialty furniture store!

Moving on to the living room...Since my husband is American Indian I decided to go with a Southwestern/Indian theme. I faux painted with a ragged effect right onto the white walls. I draped a sheer window scarf, complete with fabric rosettes, using rubber bands and the hooks that were already there. NO RODS!!!

A long shelf was rag painted to match the walls and attached over a bedroom door (it's a wonderful place to put knick knacks out of reach of my grand kids). Dream catchers and pictures, straight from the local Thrift store, line the walls. A little paint and the small pots I rescued from my neighbor's dumpster becomes a handsome detail. I made plaques from plaster and updated a dollar store frame with feathers and buttons for added touches. My most favorite thing is the large swag that hangs over my doorway. I gathered grapevines (from the back yard) into bunches, securing them with rubber bands, then I made a second one.

I put the two rubber banded ends together with wire and heavy duty twine. I hot glued a few pine cones and a raffia bow to "hide" the joining, sprayed it lightly with gold spray paint, let dry and it pulls the look in the living room together. Even the couch and most of the free standing shelving were rescued castoffs. I didn't tell you about my home to brag----I want you to realize that you, too, can do this in your homes.

I've given all sorts of ideas here. There's an endless supply of ideas and how-to's all around you. Check out bookstores, libraries, even the Internet. Type in a question and Go ogle search it! Look in magazines, even in your neighbor's homes (ask their permission to enter first ). You'll be amazed what that mind of yours can come up with!

Make your house a HOME!!! And GO GREEN in the process.

Handmade and hand painted:Each of our beaded curtains begins with approximately 4000 beads cut into 2.5" sections from natural bamboo stalks. The bamboo beads are then strung together by hand using wire to create a strand. 125 strands are then attached to a wooden hanging bar to create a bamboo beaded curtain. Finally, each bead and strand is individually hand painted producing the art you see on each beaded curtain. Since each bead is entirely painted the image is viewable on both sides of the curtain from any angle.Highest quality with 125 strands:Our hand painted bamboo beaded curtains are the highest quality beaded curtains currently being manufactured. Each bamboo curtain is truly in a class of its own. As an importer of beaded curtains for nearly 10 years, we have learned by trial, error, and customer feedback. From our experience we have found 125 strands to be the ideal number of strands per curtain. This strand count provides curtain density, durability, and vivid image detail. With less than 125 strands, you lose density and detail in the painting. With greater than 125 strands, the bead diameter becomes too small making the beads fragile and prone to breaking.

Wood Door Blinds and the Beauty of Wood

!: Wood Door Blinds and the Beauty of Wood

Nothing made by man can fully replicate the natural beauty of wood. Wood has character and a past. Wood has aroma and texture, and it is what man has been working with since the beginning. This special relationship between man and wood allows us to associate emotion and meaning, which makes decorating with wood enthralling. Wood makes a statement, and each type of wood or finish has its own associated image in the human consciousness.

One of the palest woods used in fine furniture and wood blinds is white oak. White has always been used in decorating, but the variations of dark stripes worming their way through a pale wood blind provides a cool, chick experience. Golden oak is a richer more timeless wood. Not a deep, wise color, but a rich confident one. Venetian wood blinds made from golden oak provide elegant privacy in lounges and dining rooms.

Darker colors like walnut speak to refinement. Textured natural walnut wood grain looks as if it has been around a thousand years, and will last another thousand without blinking. Walnut blinds are prefect for palaces of power; perfect for the executive office.

Bamboo comes off completely differently. Of course there is the image of the orient, but bamboo also looks shady and calming. I know of no other wood that is both calm and invigorating at the same time. Perhaps it is because bamboo is closer to grass than wood, but properly integrated, its light weight and excellent performance outdoors will give way to thoughts of tropical paradise.

While natural wood is the most raw emotion, there are plenty of ways to even it out. Stains and lacquers give the wood a whole new life while providing for some water protection.

Just make sure you feel right when you select your wood, and you are ready to go on to installing it in your home. Wood door blinds provide protection and privacy, especially on glass doors, or doors with large windows. Bamboo is popular because it is naturally heat reflective and water resistant. Bamboo has been used for centuries to keep out heat, but for optimal performance, it must be installed outside. This means no easy raising or lowering of the bamboo blind from inside. Plastic blinds are cheap and easy to clean, but damage easily.

The great thing about wood, is that it is made to be custom, made to be cut. Creating custom wood furniture is a personal experience. You get to select the wood, the grain the finish and finally, the size and where that piece of furniture will hang. A wooden blind has its own personality that can be brought out with sandblasting or whatever finish you have in mind. The vertical beaded blind looks bohemian, while the wide slat cherry venetian looks aristocratic. Don't be too conservative and paint your blinds, let them shine in their natural light. A wood door blind is easy to custom cut and is much more attractive at the entrance to your home.
